Today, we decided to hike to Yant Flat. It is in the mountains above Leeds. We have never been here before, and while we were driving to the trailhead, I got a little nervous because it really is in the middle of nowhere. We did not pass a single person or car on the 8 mile stretch of dirt road that leads to the hike. There were a few cars where we parked, and we saw a couple of people while we were on the trail, which made me feel better about being out here with all my kids and no husband. The hike is just under 1.5 miles one way. Getting there is not all that exciting, but the destination is really cool. When you arrive, you descend into an enormous basin of sandstone rock and cliffs. I have never seen anything like it. The kids loved climbing the walls and we found a lookout point with beautiful views of the mountains beyond Yant Flat. I would not do this one in the summertime because there is so little shade, but it is definitely worth seeing. After our hike, we headed to the Washington Rec. Center pool for the rest of the afternoon.
If you look closely, you can see three of my littles on this mountain. This picture gives a good idea of just how big the sandstone wall is:
Another little:
Look who's legs are the most tan! I don't think this has ever happened before (or will again). Better get a picture of it:
Ashleigh saw a snake while she was exploring (and no, it didn't bite her). In her rush to get away she tripped and fell and scraped up her leg. Way better than a snakebite.
Austin on top of the lookout point we found:
